Rethinking Health Care symposium’s media communication

Challenge

The Rethinking Health Care symposium on health technology was organised in January 2019 by the Gyllenberg Foundation, which funds medical research. There has been plenty of media coverage on the potential of artificial intelligence and health technology. The symposium’s speakers were chosen with the intention of highlighting the ethical issues involved.

There was also a desire to stimulate debate on the subject outside the medical profession. How can you get journalists interested in the ethical issues related to medicine and technology? How do you motivate the media to interview the big international names coming to speak at the symposium?

Solution

We helped the organisers stimulate public debate about the symposium’s topics, which is based on researched information. We organised a press release and media invitation to the symposium together with the symposium’s organisers. We also approached selected journalists with customised news leads.

About 10 journalists signed up for the symposium. The international speakers at the Rethinking Health Care symposium were featured in, for example, Helsingin Sanomat, YLE News, Kauppalehti and professional media.
